SIZES AND SELECTION
SJ C-Channels are manufactured in sizes nominally 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200mm deep. In each shape and size, a number of base steel thicknesses are available. Full details of shapes and sizes can be found on the Dimensions and Properties table. Design aids and load table are provided to enable designers to select appropriate sections. Overall length up to 12m are rolled to order, please contact SJ Classic sales office if length over 12m are required.

The safe load tables are calculated basing on BS 5350 Part 5-1987 with the following criteria:-
(a) All section properties are calculated on full section
(b) Clause 5222 of BS 5950 Part 5-1987 had been used to determine the miximum permissible stress
(c) All loading are uniformly distributed along the length of the number
(d) Bending moments and deflections are determined from simply theory of bending
(e) Allowable loads for maximum deflection for values lower than span 150 shall be modified as required
LOADING CASES
LOADING CASES
(1) Simply Supported – member is assumed to have pin-points at supports
(2) Double Span – member is continous over two spans with pin-point at supports
(3) Lapped End – member is the end span of multi-span with structural lapping at every interior supports
(4) Lapped Interior – member is the intermediate span of a multi-span system with structural lapping at every interior supports

PACKING
SJ Classic Steel purlins are supplied in strapped bundles. Actual numbers vary with section size and length but bundle mass is limited to approximately 1,5 tonne.
HANDLING AND STORAGE
SJ Classic C-Channels should not be allowed to get wet. They should be stacked clear off the ground and protected by waterproof covering to prevent water and / or condensation becoming trapped between adjacent surfaces. If bundles become wet, the purlins should be separated, wiped with a dry cloth and placed so that air circulation completes the drying. These procedures are recommended to avoid unsightly damage to the coating which could reduce the life of the product. Care must be taken when handling long length bundles. Lifting should only be carried out using a suitable beam with lifting points and carefully located slings.
